Discover the endless possibilities of X-Bond Microcement with expert installation.

X-Bond is a type of microcement. If you’re new here or you’ve never come across the term, microcement is a thin surface overlay (consisting of cement and a liquid polymer) that’s hand-trowelled over an existing substrate to create a concrete aesthetic. With microcement we can make anything look like concrete; from floors to walls, ceilings and furniture — but it doesn’t end there. Our X-Bond range includes four different texture finishes in 10 standard colours and the possibility to create custom shades so you can achieve endless design outcomes.

It has been tried, tested and loved in projects throughout Australia for more than 25 years, a world-first product remaining among the most versatile and durable microcement surface overlays on the market — with the longest standing history. Learn more about what makes X-Bond the best microcement.

Microcement Installation FAQs

  • We install microcement in all suburbs within metropolitan Melbourne as well as parts of wider Victoria on the Mornington Peninsula and Bellarine Peninsula. Want to check if we work in your local area? Just shoot us an email.

  • Our project lead times vary. In general, lead times before beginning projects are 2-4 weeks. X-Bond Microcement installation typically takes 5–7 days, depending on the size of the area and substrate condition.

Weather and humidity can also influence installation and drying times, which we factor into scheduling.

  • In most cases, microcement installation does not require council permits in Melbourne, as it is a surface finish rather than a structural alteration. However, permits may be required if the project is part of a larger renovation involving heritage renovations, or other structural changes.

X-Bond now has CodeMark certification for automatic deemed-to-satisfy compliance in wet areas. Read what this means here.

  • Yes, microcement can usually be applied directly over existing tiles, concrete, or screed, provided the surface is properly prepared. Our applicators will assess substrate stability and adhesion requirements before installation to ensure a long-lasting finish.
