Our Microcement Installation Process
Every X-Bond installation begins with the surface underneath. Before application, our team assesses the existing substrate to determine the preparation required and identify any cracks, movement, uneven areas or other conditions that need to be addressed.
From there, the X-Bond system is built up through the required preparation, microcement and sealing stages to create the finished surface.
Site & substrate assessment: We assess the existing surface, project requirements and proposed application.
Surface preparation: Tiles, concrete, screed and other suitable substrates are prepared to create the correct foundation for X-Bond. This includes a liquid waterproofing membrane.
X-Bond application: Multiple layers are hand-trowelled to build the characteristic seamless texture and finish.
Sealing & finishing: The completed surface is sealed for the final layer of protection against stains, moisture and wear.
Microcement for Melbourne Renovations
One of the reasons microcement is great for renovation projects is its ability to be applied over many existing surfaces. Subject to the condition and suitability of the substrate, X-Bond can be installed over existing tiles, concrete, screed, plaster and other prepared surfaces.
At approximately 2–3mm thick, the system adds minimal height and weight compared with many traditional resurfacing options. In suitable applications, this can reduce the need to remove existing finishes before creating an entirely new surface.

Our project lead times vary. In general, lead times before beginning projects are 2-4 weeks. X-Bond Microcement installation typically takes 5–7 days, depending on the size of the area and substrate condition.
Weather and humidity can also influence installation and drying times, which we factor into scheduling.
