A Sculptural Hilltop Home in Eaglemont ft. X-Bond
Built by Alt. Construction | Designed by DiBartolo Architects
Perched high on a hill in Eaglemont, just 9km from Melbourne’s CBD, this home was designed with one clear priority in mind: the city view.
Created for a young family who love entertaining, the design balances everyday functionality with generous spaces to gather, play and relax. With its elevated position, rooftop entertaining areas and sculptural form inspired by stacked rock formations, the residence presents as calm, confident and quietly striking.

Microcement Interiors: Recent Residential Projects in Melbourne
Architecture Shaped by Landscape and Light
From the street, this residence reads as a bold composition of layered forms — a modern interpretation of natural rock strata.
The home’s geometry steps and folds across the site, creating protected terraces, open entertaining zones and framed outlooks across Melbourne’s skyline. Large expanses of glazing soften the structure’s strength, inviting natural light deep into the interiors while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
A Material Palette of Texture and Restraint
A key element of the project is its refined, tonal material palette.
Warm timber joinery, natural stone and soft neutral finishes work together to create an interior that feels grounded yet elevated. It’s a home designed not only for visual impact, but for comfort and longevity.
Central to this palette is the use of X-Bond Microcement, applied to both interior and exterior walls to achieve seamless continuity and organic concrete-inspired texture.
X-Bond: A Clever Concrete-Look Finish
In our Natural Concrete finish, X-Bond plays a subtle but defining role.
This finish is specially engineered to resemble the naturally occurring irregularities of raw concrete. First, it’s sprayed onto the surface, and then we pass a trowel over it — the result a combination of smooth and rough areas.
It’s a deeply tactile finish that complements the minimalist detailing of the architecture, and creates a cohesive transition between inside and out.
A Sculptural Façade
On the exterior, X-Bond becomes part of the home’s architectural identity. Applied to areas of the façade, our textured microcement finish enhances the monolithic quality of the structure, reinforcing the elemental design narrative.
Microcement was selected here not only for its visual appeal, but for its durability and adaptability — holding up with weather exposure, from UV to rain. The result is a surface that feels both contemporary yet natural, and above all else will remain in perfect condition for decades, as this is a true forever home.
This residence is a celebration of sculptural form, considered materiality and contemporary family living.
Through the seamless integration of X-Bond Microcement across both interior walls and the façade, the project achieves a cohesive architectural language — one that feels timeless, organic, and distinctly Melbourne.
