But first, what is Quartz Carpet™? Quartz carpet is consists of quartz stones and high-quality resin binder which are hand-applied as a seamless material on wall, floor and joinery surfaces. As an overlay, it can be installed directly onto a wide range of existing materials like tiles, concrete, and plaster. Compared to other aggregate surfaces, there are many things that set it apart…

1. It’s made from real, natural Quartz stone

Quartz Carpet™ is composed of pure, rounded quartz granules which are one of the hardest natural minerals on earth. These stones are carefully selected for their consistency, shape, and durability. Unlike other finishes, Quartz Carpet™ uses only tumbled smooth-edged granules, giving the surface a unique texture that’s both soft underfoot and visually refined. Because it’s a natural product, Quartz Carpet™ also delivers subtle tonal variations that make every floor unique.

2. It can be used on a wide range of internal and external surfaces

Thanks to its UV-resistance and non-slip texture, Quartz Carpet™ is ideal for outdoor flooring like pool surrounds, alfresco areas, pathways, and driveways/garages. However, when people think of aggregates, they tend to only think of these high-use external floor areas — but our Quartz Carpet™ stands out because of its versatile applications. It’s a beautiful decorative interior surface solution used in many award-winning and renowned interior projects like Aesop Sydney and FY Smile for walls and joinery pieces — along with high-traffic flooring, of course.

3. It can be permeable or non-permeable

People always ask us; is Quartz Carpet™ water-permeable? Depending on your needs, Quartz Carpet™ can indeed be left permeable. In this state, water filters through the gaps between the quartz granules and into the substrate below, helping to reduce puddling and surface runoff. It’s ideal for outdoor areas where effective drainage is crucial.

Alternatively, it can also be filled with a clear resin sealer, creating a smooth and non-porous finish that’s perfect for indoor areas and wet zones that need to be mopped. This makes it especially suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial settings where spills and moisture are common.

Having the option to choose between a porous or sealed finish adds an extra layer of design versatility, without compromising the look or texture of the surface.

4. It’s incredibly strong – yet soft underfoot

Clients can be concerned about how our quartz stones feel, because it’s often confused with exposed aggregate concrete (ouch). One person even commented that they were worried it would feel like “stepping on broken lego”!

Here’s the surprise: Quartz Carpet™ is both durable and comfortable. It’s true that the hardness of quartz provides high wear resistance, ensuring an impact resistant surface that doesn’t chip like tiles or polished concrete can. But our smooth, rounded quartz granules and resin binding (internally) create a floor that feels smooth to walk on, even barefoot.

5. It’s customisable to your vision

Quartz Carpet™ is made from finer granules than exposed aggregate concrete, so ultimately it will look much sleeker. But our range does provide different options for stone sizes, depending on how visible you want the individual quartz stones to be. At Alternative Surfaces, we offer a curated standard colour palette — but can also work with you to develop a custom colour blend to match your project vision. Want to incorporate branding, zoning, or unique design features? Quartz Carpet™ can be hand-laid into patterns, borders, or even logos.

At Alternative Surfaces, we’re passionate about helping builders, architects, and homeowners find innovative surface solutions that elevate their spaces. If you’d like to explore how Quartz Carpet™ can work in your next project, get in touch or visit our showroom to experience it in person.
