X-Bond Specification Guidelines
Everything you need to know when specifying X-Bond to be installed by Alt. Surfaces

Based in Melbourne, Alternative Surfaces install X-Bond on a range of projects for commercial, retail, residential, hospitality, industrial and educational buildings. The following specification guidelines provide information on suitable substrates X-Bond can be applied to, preparation required, the different X-Bond finishes and sealers.

Specification Guidelines for each X-Bond Finish
Finish: X-Bond Luma
Sealer: Satin Stone
Characteristics / Application
X-Bond is a combination of Stone Tex, which is a sand and cement mixture, and liquid latex called X-Bond liquid. When mixed it forms a thin cementitious finish. A liquid colour pigment is mixed with the X-Bond compound, changing the colour of the whole mixture. X-Bond Luma is a finish that’s hand-trowelled over an existing surface at approximately 3mm thick. The finish is then buffed with resin pads. To finish, 4x coats of Satin Stone sealer is applied. Satin Stone is a surface mounting sealer.

X-Bond Luma with Satin Stone sealer achieves a P4 slip rating
Finish: X-Bond Micro / Microcement
Sealer: Natural Shield
Characteristics / Application
X-Bond is a combination of Stone Tex, which is a sand and cement mixture, and liquid latex called X-Bond liquid. When mixed it forms a thin cementitious finish. A liquid colour pigment is mixed with the X-Bond compound, changing the colour of the whole mixture. X-Bond Luma is a finish that’s hand-trowelled over an existing surface at approximately 3mm thick. The finish is then buffed with resin pads. To finish, 3x coats of Natural Shield sealer is applied. Natural Shield is a penetrating sealer.

Finish: X-Bond Blade
Sealer: Satin Stone
Characteristics / Application

A liquid colour pigment is mixed with the X-Bond compound, changing the colour of the whole mixture. X-Bond is applied over an existing surface with a blade at approximately 2mm thick. To finish, 4x coats of Satin Stone sealer is applied. Satin Stone is a surface mounting sealer.

X-Bond Blade with Natural Shield achieves a P3 slip rating (un-sanded) and P5 slip rating (sanded)
Finish: X-Bond Mineral
Characteristics / Application
X-Bond is a combination of Stone Tex, which is a white sand and cement mixture, and liquid latex called X-Bond liquid. When mixed it forms a thin cementitious finish. A liquid colour pigment is mixed with the X-Bond compound, changing the colour of the whole mixture. To achieve the X-Bond Mineral finish, X-Bond is sprayed over an existing surface at approximately 3mm thick. To finish, 3x coats of one of the following sealers are applied:
400 Matt (internal floors or walls) or;
Natural Shield (internal or external walls) or;
Pave Coat (external floors)
Appearance:
Highly textured finish both visually and rough to touch
When X-Bond is wet it will look wet until it is dry (just like concrete)

Finish: X-Bond Natural Concrete
Sealer: Satin Stone / Natural Shield

A liquid colour pigment is mixed with the X-Bond compound, changing the colour of the whole mixture. X-Bond is applied over an existing surface with a blade at approximately 2mm thick. To finish, 4x coats of Satin Stone or 3x coats of Natural Shield sealer is applied.

Similar to the look of natural concrete
Combination of textured and smooth areas

Finish: Pre-Stain
Sealer: Satin Stone / Natural Shield
Characteristics / Application
Pre-Stain water-based colour stain is sprayed over a concrete surface. Pre-Stain does not build up on the surface, change the texture of the concrete, or mask damage. Every concrete will absorb the stain differently therefore no two projects will ever be the same. The matt sealer does not build up on the surface; instead, it penetrates into the concrete leaving the surface natural in appearance. It does not change the texture of the concrete. To finish, 4x coats of Satin Stone or 3x coats of Natural Shield is applied

Translucent colour stain and colour variation
Concrete grain will be seen through the stain
Matt in appearance
Texture of existing concrete
Imperfections from the concrete substrate will be visible
